For this post, I’m sharing a framework that I rely on as a content strategist to help me identify customer learning needs. I’ve shared this framework in a previous class, and I’m sharing it again to demonstrate how adaptive it can be to whatever the context is. The learning journey framework that I’m walking through today is focused on how we can build writing literacy learning journeys to meet our student needs. I applied various writing strategies from experts, such as Don Murray and Nancy Atwell, to build an example writing literacy learning journey. I then demonstrate how the example learning journey can be applied to identify student needs and teacher responses based on a writing workshop given to third-grade students. I end my demonstration by applying the same example framework to developing a responsible and ethical writing practice in response to generative AI. I hope this demonstration gives you some ideas about how you can start from your students’ needs to develop a responsive and effective writing curriculum. And if you’re so inspired, in the comments, let me know what you think or what questions you have.
